Since 2013 works have not progressed much at the new stadium, though the construction should be completed in 18 months.

22.06.2015: Allianz Group has given its name to another football stadium. Following Allianz Arena in Munich, there is the Allianz Riviera stadium in the French city of Nice. The home ground of OGC Nice was built in 2013, for the purpose of hosting the 2016 European Championship, which will be played at ten stadiums in France. Until 2013 Nice had been playing their Ligue 1 matches at the Stade Municipal du Ray, which could hold up to 17,415 spectators. The capacity of the new Allianz Riviera is twice as large – 35,624 seats.

Luzhniki stadium to host 2018 World Cup Final


Moscow - Luzhniki StadiumMoscow - Luzhniki Stadium01.06.2015: The 21st World Cup will be played in 2018 in Russia at twelve stadiums in eleven cities. 32 national teams will take part in the tournament and one of them will win the Cup in the final played on 8th July 2018 at the Luzhniki Stadium, the largest stadium in Russia with a capacity of 81,000 seats. Russia, then the Soviet Union was not awarded the 1990 World Cup, which was eventually played in Italy. It will therefore be the first World Cup in history to be played in Russia, a country situated on two continents.

Manchester City expanding their stadium


Manchester - Etihad StadiumManchester - Etihad Stadium18.05.2015: Manchester City have decided to expand the South and North stands of the Etihad Stadium. The expansion should result in an increase in capacity – originally 47,805 – by another 14,000 seats. The total capacity should go up to 62,000 seats. As part of the expansion works the stadium will also be modernized and a new shopping centre will be built, as these are nowadays a standard facility at new stadiums. The Etihad Stadium modernization project was approved in spring 2013 and in early 2014 the construction works began.

The Victory Arena – the new 2018 World Cup venue


Volgograd - Volgograd ArenaVolgograd - Volgograd Arena07.04.2015: At the end of 2014 the Centralnyj Stadium, the then home ground of FC Rotor Volgograd with a capacity of 30,000 seats, was demolished. Construction of a new stadium, the “Victory” Arena, was begun on its site. The stadium will have a capacity of 45,000 seats and will be one of the twelve venues for the 2018 World Cup.
