And at the time of its construction it was considered to be the most modern stadium in the world. Originally, a new stadium in Amsterdam was designed as a venue for the 1992 Summer Olympics. In the end, the Netherlands were not awarded the Olympics, so the plans for construction of an athletics stadium were abandoned.

A new City Arena opened in Trnava, Slovakia

The newly built stadium has a capacity of 19,200 seats and is thus the largest stadium in Slovakia. The City Arena Trnava was built on the site of the former Anton Malatinsky’s Stadium and is the largest construction ever to be built in Trnava, a Slovak city with a population of 65,000 people. The premises also include office buildings, a shopping mall, a cinema complex and a two-storey underground car park.

Renovation of Udinese stadium about to be completed

That same year the renovation of the main stand began – it is the only stand to retain its original design. The unique feature of the main stand is its arched roof, symbolic of the entire stadium. The old oval-shaped stands with the running track were replaced by new stands, making the stadium football-only.

11.08.2015: One of the twelve venues for the upcoming 2018 World Cup, held in Russia, is the Kazan Arena, a stadium with a capacity of 45,000. Its construction began in 2010 and took three years, which was longer than expected. Apart from this the construction also exceeded the originally proposed budget. On the site there is also a museum of Rubin Kazan, a shopping and health centre, nowadays quite a usual facility. The former Centralnyj stadion, was used from 1960 until the club moved to the new stadium, which was in 2014.

Reconstruction of the Olympic Stadium for West Ham United

The stadium was built to provide a venue for the 2012 Summer Olympics, with a capacity of 80,000 seats. It was designed so that once the Olympics were over, it could be rebuilt to suit the needs of West Ham United, a Premier League club. To this end, the capacity was decreased and the stands were moved closer to the pitch, through the former athletics track.
