A new stadium with a capacity of 13,000 to be built in Dunajská Streda, Slovakia

Dunajská Streda - MOL ArenaDunajská Streda - MOL Arena 03.03.2017: The fans of FC DAC Dunajská Streda will finally get a new stadium too – in the course of the 2017/2018 season their team will move to a new arena, which will have a capacity of 13,000 and will also house a club museum, a gift shop and a restaurant. The new MOL arena will comply with the Category 4 UEFA regulations, which means that the stadium will be able to host international matches.

The construction, which is expected to cost 22 million EUR, will be done in several stages from May 2016 till the end of 2017. The new stadium is being built on the site of the old stadium, and it will be rotated by 90 degrees, compared to the old stadium.

By the end of April, two days after the farewell match, the demolition of the old stands started. Except for the main stand, where the facilities are and which has been temporarily preserved for this reason, the stadium was demolished completely. Subsequently, the construction works began.

The first stage of construction was completed unexpectedly fast. Stands C and B including the corner connecting part, which can hold up to 6,839 spectators, were built in five months – between August and November 2016. The main part of the stadium – the main stand A, the club facilities, the press box and VIP boxes – should be completed between November 2016 and July 2017. The main stand will then be demolished, and the remaining stand – the south stand D behind the goal – will be built in its place by the end of 2017. This will bring the construction to an end and the arena will thus be ready to host the home matches of FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda.

The old Municipal stadium in Dunajská Streda

The DAC arena, previously known as the Municipal stadium, was built in 1953 and it had undergone several renovation before it was demolished in 2016, the last of them being carried out in 2011. The stadium had a capacity of 16,410 and it had mostly standing areas – to be more precise, there were 3,410 seats on the main stand.

4,191 spectators came to see the farewell match played at the Municipal stadium on 23rd April. It was a Fortuna league match and the home team beat Podbrezová 1-0. As the Dunajská Streda team found themselves stadium-less, it was agreed that they would play their remaining home matches at their opponents’ grounds.
