Allianz Stadium to be built in Vienna

Vienna - Allianz StadionVienna - Allianz Stadion 29.06.2015: The construction of the Allianz Stadium, the future home ground of the Austrian Bundesliga club Rapid Vienna, should be completed in June 2016. The new stadium of Rapid Vienna will replace the old Gerhard Hanappi Stadium, which was officially closed in early October 2014 and completely demolished in January 2015. Although the Allianz Stadium is being built on the same site as the old stadium, one thing is going to change – the pitch will be rotated 90 degrees.

While the construction of the new stadium is in progress, Rapid Vienna play their home matches at the Ernst Happel Stadium. The new stadium will have a capacity of 24,000 seats, including 2,500 business seats and 40 VIP boxes.

In June 2014 Rapid signed a sponsorship agreement with the insurance company Allianz, which obtained naming rights and the stadium is thus called Allianz Stadium. Its construction will cost about 53 million EUR.
