Amsterdam Arena after renovation in 2020
Amsterdam - Amsterdam Arena12.03.2017: The Ajax stadium, built in 1996, was considered to be one of the most modern arenas in the world at that time. To preserve its reputation as one of the most modern grounds in the world, it has to undergo some changes from time to time. And that is why Ajax presented their project of a progressive redevelopment of the arena which will go on until 2020. Another reason for launching the project is the fact that Amsterdam intends to be one of the venues for the 2020 World Cup.
History of Philips Stadion, the one and only home of PSV Eindhoven
Eindhoven - Philips Stadion14.07.2016: The second most successful team in the history of Dutch football, PSV Eindhoven, have been playing their matches at Philips Stadion, formerly known as Philips Sportpark, since the club was founded in 1913. At first, there was merely a pitch, and in 1915 a wooden stand was added, which could hold 550 spectators. Seventeen years later, the stadium capacity was increased to 900. The Phillips Sportpark, as it was then called, became a real stadium in 1941 when it was turned into an athletics stadium with a capacity of 18,000.
Amsterdam Arena, the most modern arena at one time
Amsterdam ArenA13.10.2015: The multi-purpose Amsterdam ArenA has a capacity of 53,000 and is thus the largest stadium in the Netherlands. And at the time of its construction it was considered to be the most modern stadium in the world. Originally, a new stadium in Amsterdam was designed as a venue for the 1992 Summer Olympics. In the end, the Netherlands were not awarded the Olympics, so the plans for construction of an athletics stadium were abandoned.
Tour of De Kuip, home ground of Feyenoord Rotterdam
Rotterdam - De Kuip07.10.2015: It has been the home ground of one of the best-known Dutch clubs, Feyenoord Rotterdam – the famous De Kuip. In March the stadium celebrated its 78th anniversary. Although the club management presented an ambitious project to build a brand new stadium, it is clear that the legendary De Kuip will not be forgotten. It has left a permanent trace in the history of football. Plans for construction of De Kuip were devised in the 1930s, when the then President of the club Leen van Zandvliet came up with an idea of building a modern stadium, which would, unlike any other stadium in Europe, have two-tier stands.
